How to Price Your Massage Services in Uganda (UGX)

How much to charge for massage in Uganda: a costs-and-time pricing method in UGX, how to price outcall versus incall, deposits through Velvet, and when discounts make sense.

How much you should charge for massage in Uganda depends on your real costs, your travel time and the hours you can actually book, not on a copied rate card. This guide gives you a method to work out your own price in UGX, then shows how to adjust it for outcall, deposits and discounts.

How you get paid on Velvet: the client pays Velvet before you meet, so the money is already there. You get half as soon as the booking is made, and the rest after the meetup: the price you set, minus Velvet's fee. No more being paid less than agreed, or not paid at all.

Key takeaways

  • Start from your costs and your time, then compare with what clients see on the market. A price that ignores transport and travel time quietly loses you money.
  • Outcall (you travel to the client) should cost more than incall, because Kampala traffic turns a one-hour session into a three-hour block.
  • Creators set their own prices on Velvet, and the client pays Velvet before the session, so you are not asking for a deposit at the door.
  • Discounts work best as a reward for repeat clients, not as a way to get a first booking.
  • Prices on this page are ranges that listings report, not quotes. You decide yours.

How much should I charge for massage in Uganda?

Begin with the number of hours you want to work and the money you need each month to keep going. Divide the second by the first and you have the least you can accept per hour before you are working for free. Then add what you want to earn on top. Every price you publish should sit above that floor.

Here is a worksheet to fill in with your own numbers. We do not print numbers in the boxes because yours will not match anyone else's.

Cost lineQuestion to askHow often it happens
TransportBoda boda, taxi or e-hailing return trip to the clientPer outcall session
Oils and consumablesWhat does one session use?Per session
Linen and laundryTowels, sheets, washing and dryingPer session
Table and kitCost of a portable table or bolsters, spread over how many sessions?Monthly share
Phone and dataAirtime and data for bookings and repliesMonthly
Rest and travel timeHow many hours does a "one hour" outcall really take?Per session

Add the per-session lines, add the monthly lines divided by the sessions you expect to book, and you have your cost per session. Your price is that figure plus the pay you want for the hour.

Each creator sets their own price on their profile. Clients also read price pages such as the Uganda massage price list and home massage cost in Kampala, so it helps to know what they see before they reach you.

How do I price outcall versus incall?

Incall means the client comes to your room or studio. Outcall means you go to a home, hotel or office. The two are not the same job.

Outcall costs more time and money. A session in Kololo or Bugolobi might take one hour in the room but two more hours on the road, depending on whether you are crossing the city on Jinja Road, Entebbe Road or the Northern Bypass at peak hours. If you only charge for the hour on the table, you are paying for the client's convenience.

Three practical ways to cover it:

  • A travel fee by zone. Near areas have one fee, far areas have another, written on your profile.
  • A higher outcall price with no separate travel line, which is easier for clients to understand.
  • A minimum length for outcall so you never travel for a short, low-value booking.

Whatever you choose, show it before the client books. Surprise charges at the door are the fastest way to a bad review.

Should I ask for a deposit?

On Velvet, the full amount is paid to Velvet when the client books, and it is released after the session is confirmed. That already does what a deposit does: you know the money exists before you leave home. If a client wants to pay you directly instead, the booking leaves payment protection and dispute protection, and the risk of a no-show lands on you.

Mobile money transfers to a stranger are difficult to reverse. If someone asks you to send them money to "release" a booking, that is a scam, not a deposit.

Should I offer discounts?

Sometimes, but not to win a first booking. A discount on the first visit tells the client your normal price is negotiable, and the next client will ask for the same.

Better uses of a discount:

  • A package for repeat clients: for example a lower price per session when they book a set of sessions.
  • A quiet-hours offer on weekday mornings when you would otherwise be free.
  • A couple or group booking where you serve two people in one visit and save the travel time.

Keep the offer in writing on your profile. Do not go lower than the floor you calculated above, even once.

What moves the price up or down?

  • Your training and experience. A certificate and a good record of reviews justify a higher price.
  • The area. Hotels and homes in Kololo and Nakasero usually sit above the outskirts, but check what clients actually book near you.
  • Time of day. Late evenings and weekends are in demand and you can charge for your rest time.
  • Session length and type. Deep tissue and longer sessions take more energy than a basic relaxation hour.
  • Your calendar. If you are always fully booked, you can raise prices. If you are empty, look at your photos and bio first, not just your price.

Tips, tax and the money you keep

Creators keep 80% of what clients pay for paid items, and the terms are on the join page; joining is free right now, with paid tiers to come. Some clients will add a tip, which is a bonus and not a price. Read how tips work to see how they are handled, and keep records from the first week, as explained in our guide to tax and record-keeping. That guide is general information, not tax advice.

Frequently asked questions

What is a fair price for a one-hour massage in Kampala?
A fair price covers your costs, your travel time and a decent hourly pay. Use the worksheet above, then compare with the current listing range on this page. The final number is yours.

Do I charge for travel time?
Yes, either as a zone-based fee or inside a higher outcall price. Write it on your profile so clients see it before they book.

Should I match the cheapest therapist near me?
No. The lowest price brings the clients most likely to haggle, cancel or not pay. Compete on photos, reviews and reliability.

Can I change my price later?
Yes. Raise it gently when your calendar fills, and tell repeat clients before the change.

What if a client asks me to lower the price at the door?
Decline politely. The price was agreed and paid to Velvet when they booked. If they insist, end the session and use the report tool.
