If you are a man who wants to work as a massage therapist in Uganda, you have two routes: look for a job in a spa or hotel parlour, or take your own bookings online.
How you get paid on Velvet: the client pays Velvet before you meet, so the money is already there. You get half as soon as the booking is made, and the rest after the meetup: the price you set, minus Velvet's fee. No more being paid less than agreed, or not paid at all.
Spas and parlours in Kampala commonly pay a therapist only about 30% of the session fee and keep the rest. On Velvet Africa you keep 80% of your session fee. There is one flat 20% commission, the same for every creator, on everything. Joining is free and stays free: no signup fee, no monthly fee, no plans or tiers. You set your own prices, services, hours and boundaries. Verification is free, and it is what makes you bookable.
Some clients ask for a male therapist by name. The next section shows how to check your own area.

Key takeaways
- Some clients ask for a male therapist specifically β men who prefer a man, couples booking two therapists, and people who want firm deep-tissue work.
- You keep 80% of what you charge. One flat 20% commission on everything. If a spa pays you 30%, the same session leaves you far less.
- Joining is free and permanent. No joining fee, no monthly fee, no tiers.
- Verification is free and is what makes you bookable: your ID plus a short video.
- The client pays before the meetup. Half of your 80% share lands in your wallet when the booking is confirmed, the rest on completion. Out-call travel money is 100% yours.
- If the session never happens, the money goes back to the client β including the half already released to you. Nobody argues about cash, but you are not paid for a session that did not happen.
Who asks for a male therapist, and how to check
Many do not mind. Some do, and they say so when they book:
- A male client who prefers a man. Comfort is personal.
- Couples. A session in one room needs two therapists, and a couple may want one man and one woman.
- Firm deep-tissue and sports work. People who train, ride a boda all day or sit at a desk often ask for strong pressure on the back and shoulders. You can price that above a light relaxation massage.
- Out-call clients. Some book a massage in their hotel room or at home.
Do not take our word for how much of that work is out there. Check your area in five minutes:
- Open Velvet Explore, choose your city, and count how many male therapists are listed near you.
- Search your phone for "male massage therapist" plus your town.
- Look at the spa pages you know. Many spas advertise mostly female therapists.

What can you actually earn?
Nobody can promise you bookings. What we can show you is the arithmetic. Velvet charges one flat 20% commission, so you keep 80% of your session fee β the same rate for every creator, on bookings, tips and content alike. A payment-processing fee is charged to the client on top; you earn nothing from it.
| Your session price | If a spa pays you 30% | Velvet: you keep 80% |
|---|---|---|
| UGX 80,000 | UGX 24,000 | UGX 64,000 |
| UGX 100,000 | UGX 30,000 | UGX 80,000 |
| UGX 150,000 | UGX 45,000 | UGX 120,000 |
| UGX 200,000 | UGX 60,000 | UGX 160,000 |
One illustrative example, not a promise. Charge UGX 120,000 for a 60-minute deep-tissue session and you keep UGX 96,000. Four sessions in a week is UGX 384,000; over four weeks, UGX 1,536,000. Two a week is half that.
Out-call travel is on top. Charge UGX 15,000 transport and all UGX 15,000 comes to you, so that session pays UGX 111,000 in total. More numbers in how to earn as a massage therapist in Kampala.
How the money reaches you
You never collect cash at the door. This is payment protection:
- The client pays before the meetup. Velvet holds the money.
- When the booking is confirmed, half of your 80% share goes straight into your in-app wallet. On a UGX 120,000 session that is UGX 48,000 up front.
- The other UGX 48,000 is released when the session is completed.
- If the meetup never happens β no-show, cancellation, or a refunded dispute β the client gets their money back, and the half already released is taken back out of your wallet. Nobody argues about cash, but you are not paid for a session that did not happen.

How to start, step by step
You need a phone, your national ID or passport, and a few clear photos.
- Step 1. Open velvetafrica.com/c/register on your phone. Fill in your name, email and a password to create your free account.
- Step 2. Open your email and tap the verification link. If you do not see it, check Spam or Promotions.
- Step 3. Upload 4 to 6 sharp photos, including a clear face photo and a cover photo. Good light, clean background, no filters.
- Step 4. Write a short bio: what you are trained in β Swedish, deep tissue, sports β and how long you have practised.
- Step 5. Add your services and type your own prices. Set your areas and add a transport fee for out-calls. Many clients look for a therapist in the evening or at the weekend, so keep some of those hours open if you can.
- Step 6. Complete verification: photograph your ID and record the short video the screen asks for. It is free, and it makes you bookable with the verified badge.
- Step 7. Turn on your availability. Clients can then send you booking requests, and you accept or decline each one. Reply quickly β a client who is waiting will usually book someone else.
Then ask every happy client for a review β only a real paying client can leave one.
Start your free profile now β you can add your verification documents later the same day.
Staying safe and professional
Velvet is a verified companionship and wellness platform for adults 18 and over β legitimate massage and companionship only. Anything illegal is not allowed on Velvet. You write your own boundaries on your profile, which clients see before booking. What the platform gives you is concrete: the client pays the platform before you meet, so there is no cash at the door; the booking and the chat sit on record in the app; you accept or decline every request; and you can report anyone who pushes past what you agreed. Frequently asked questions
Do I need a certificate to join as a male massage therapist?
No certificate is required to join Velvet. Verification checks who you are, not your school papers. Training still matters to clients, so put any certificate in your bio. If you plan to open your own premises, confirm what your city or district authority requires β KCCA in Kampala.
Is it really free to join, with nothing to pay later?
Yes. Creating your profile is free and stays free: no signup fee, no monthly fee, no plans to upgrade to. Every creator gets every feature. Velvet only earns when you earn.
Do male therapists get booked in Uganda?
Some clients ask for a male therapist by name, for the reasons listed above. Nobody can honestly promise you a number of bookings. Check for yourself: open Explore, pick your city, and see how many male therapists are listed near you.
When do I get my money?
Half of your 80% share lands in your in-app wallet as soon as the booking is confirmed, and the other half when the session is completed. You then withdraw from your wallet.
Can I choose which clients I accept?
Yes. You accept or decline every request yourself, and you set your own services, prices, hours, areas and boundaries. You can pause your availability whenever you need a break.
What if a client does not show up?
The client is refunded, and the half of your 80% share released at confirmation is taken back out of your wallet. So nobody argues about cash β but you are not paid for a session that did not happen. That is the honest version.
If a spa is leaving you with only about a third of what you bring in, here is the straightforward alternative. Create your free profile and get verified β it costs nothing, or read the overview at velvetafrica.com/join.
