Paying for Services on Velvet Africa
Velvet Africa accepts a full range of payment methods popular in Uganda — from MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money to Visa and Mastercard. The platform's payment system is designed to be convenient for Ugandan users while maintaining international security standards. This guide explains every aspect of paying on Velvet Africa.
How paying works on Velvet: you pay Velvet, not the creator. Velvet sends the creator half when you book, and the rest only after the meetup. If the creator cancels or does not come, you can ask Velvet for your money back.
Accepted Payment Methods
MTN Mobile Money
MTN Mobile Money is Uganda's most widely used digital payment system and the most common payment method on Velvet Africa. To pay via MTN MoMo, select it at checkout, enter your MTN number, and approve the payment on your phone when prompted. The transaction completes in seconds and your wallet is credited immediately.
Airtel Money
Airtel Money users can pay using exactly the same process as MTN. Select Airtel Money at checkout, enter your Airtel number, and confirm the payment on your handset. Both MTN and Airtel mobile money transactions are processed through Flutterwave or PesaPal — certified payment processors operating across Africa.
Visa and Mastercard
International visitors or Ugandans with bank cards can pay by Visa or Mastercard. Card payments are processed through the platform's certified payment gateway with 3D Secure authentication for additional protection. Your card details are never stored on Velvet Africa's servers.
The Velvet Africa Wallet System
Velvet Africa uses an internal wallet that you top up before making bookings. Your wallet balance is shown on your dashboard. When you complete a booking, the service amount is deducted from your wallet and held by Velvet until the booking is confirmed. This protects you — if a booking is cancelled by the creator, your funds are returned to your wallet immediately.
Topping Up Your Wallet
- Go to your dashboard and select "Top Up Wallet"
- Choose your payment method (MTN, Airtel, Visa, or Mastercard)
- Enter the amount you want to add (minimum deposit applies)
- Complete the payment on your device
- Your wallet updates in real time
Withdrawing from Your Wallet
If you have a wallet balance you want to recover, you can request a withdrawal to your mobile money number or bank account from your dashboard. Withdrawals are typically processed within 1-3 business days.
Security and Fraud Protection
Velvet Africa's payment system includes several layers of protection:
- All transactions are encrypted using industry-standard SSL/TLS protocols
- Mobile money payments require your phone-side confirmation — no one can initiate a payment without physical access to your handset
- Card payments use 3D Secure authentication (Verified by Visa / Mastercard SecureCode)
- Your payment details are never stored on Velvet Africa's servers or shared with creators
No Hidden Fees
Velvet Africa does not charge clients a transaction fee for topping up or making bookings. The price you see on a service listing is what you pay. The platform's commission is charged to creators on completed bookings — this cost is already reflected in the creator's listed price.
